In a First, COVID Vaccine Is Added to Adult Immunization Schedule

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP), an expert panel that advises the U.S. federal government on vaccination recommendations for all Americans, released the 2023 Recommended Adult Immunization Schedule on Thursday. The addition is being made to the schedule. Naturally, COVID vaccination has been suggested ever since vaccines became available. Dr. Sandra Adamson Fryhofer, an Atlanta-based physician who serves as an ACIP liaison, stated, "But its inclusion on the recommended vaccine schedule underscores the fact that COVID-19 is not going away." Fryhofer stated, "This reiterates that COVID has gone from pandemic to endemic." It appears to be here to stay for the time being." The term "endangered species" refers to a disease that is spreading more steadily than in a pandemic. The primary COVID vaccine series has been administered to the majority of Americans at this point. However, few individuals have received the most recent "bivalent" boosters, which target both the original COVID strain and two Omicron subvariants.
